Remembering Lindsey Graham (Executive Session)

The Senate met in executive session, where members offered remarks on the sudden passing of Senator Lindsey Graham. Senator Van Hollen expressed condolences to Graham’s family and recalled that, despite often disagreeing, the two had worked together on foreign policy matters, including support for the Syrian Kurds in the fight against ISIS. He also noted that, on the business before the Senate that day, he would have disagreed with Graham.Written by AI from the debate. Updated .

“I am sorry for the loss of Lindsey Graham's family and loved ones. We often disagreed, but we worked together on foreign policy, like supporting the Syrian Kurds against ISIS. Today, we would disagree on the issue before us.”
Official Congressional Record

Madam President, let me start by expressing my condolences to the family and loved ones of Lindsey Graham on his sudden passing. While we disagreed more often than not, we were able to work together over the years on a number of key foreign policy issues, including our mutual support of the Syrian Kurds or the Syrian Democratic Forces who have been our key partners in the fight against ISIS. And I will discuss our work on that and other matters at another time. On the matter before us today, I am sure we would disagree.
