Tim Scott, Republican senator for South Carolina, appears in these statements both as a policy proposer and a hometown commemorator. He introduced an amendment requiring colleges and athletic associations to disclose foreign funding over $600 in college athletics, making a specific, defined ask and explaining its rationale plainly—that it provides transparency without prohibiting foreign investment—and closed by requesting adoption by voice vote. He also devotes floor time to recognizing institutions in his state, in this case a 200th-anniversary statement for a historic Lowcountry parish, which reads as ceremonial praise for constituents rather than argument. Neither statement involves partisan criticism of the other party; his arguments come with stated reasons, though two statements are too few to establish firm habits.Written by AI from their statements. Legislative Session

“I want the Senate to approve my amendment. It requires colleges and athletic leagues to report if they get more than $600 from foreign governments or foreign companies. It does not ban this money, but it lets the public know where the money is coming from.”
Official Congressional Record

Oh, I will shorten my comments. Mr. President, if a college, conference, or athletic association receives significant funding for college athletics from a foreign government, foreign adversary, state-owned enterprise or sovereign wealth fund, it should disclose that funding, any funding exceeding $600. This amendment does not prohibit foreign investment or financing; it simply provides transparency so that the student-athletes, schools, and the American people know when foreign entities are financing American college athletics. This amendment ensures transparency while allowing college athletics to remain competitive. I certainly ask that this amendment be adopted by voice vote.

Recognizing the 200th Anniversary of Saint James the Greater Catholic Church

“I want to congratulate Saint James the Greater Catholic Church on its 200th anniversary. It started in 1826 and is one of the oldest historically Black Catholic churches in the South. I ask the Senate to join me in honoring its service to South Carolina.”
Official Congressional Record

Mr. President, as the senior Senator from the great State of South Carolina, it is my pleasure to recognize and congratulate Saint James the Greater Catholic Church as they celebrate their 200th anniversary as a faithful parish in the Lowcountry. Founded in 1826, Saint James the Greater Catholic Church has served as a beacon of faith, worship, and fellowship. Since its founding, the parish has been a steadfast presence in the community, offering spiritual guidance and contributing to the cultural and historical heritage of the Palmetto State. South Carolina is blessed by the service, stewardship, and resilience of Saint James the Greater Catholic Church. Standing as one of the oldest historically Black Catholic churches in the South, they continue to build a legacy that embodies faith, hope, and love. I ask my colleagues to join me in congratulating Saint James the Greater Catholic Church on celebrating 200 years of faith and service to the Lowcountry and all of South Carolina. The parish’s passion to spread the good news and serve others in the community deserves our sincerest gratitude. I look forward to their next 200 years and the positive impact that they will continue to make in the lives of countless South Carolinians.
