Order of Procedure (Executive Session)

This was a Senate procedural session to set up consideration of a nomination on the Executive Calendar (No. 828). Senator Barrasso asked unanimous consent, waiving part of Rule XXII, to shorten debate and schedule a confirmation vote by Friday, September 25, at a time set by the majority leader in consultation with the Democratic leader. No substantive arguments for or against the nomination were made in the sampled remarks; the discussion was about scheduling and voting rules only.Written by AI from the debate. Updated .

“I am asking the Senate to set the schedule and voting rules for this nomination and amendment, so we can vote on the confirmation by Friday, September 25.”
Official Congressional Record

Mr. President, I ask unanimous consent that notwithstanding rule XXII, if cloture is invoked on Executive Calendar No. 828, all postcloture time be expired and the Senate vote on confirmation of the nomination at a time to be determined by the majority leader, in consultation with the Democrat leader, no later than Friday, September 25; further, that the mandatory quorum call with respect to the cloture motion on the substitute amendment No. 6776 be waived; and if cloture is invoked, that all time during recess, adjournment, morning business, and leader remarks count postcloture on the amendment.
