Officer John Barnes and Chief Michael Ansbro Public Safety Officers' Benefit Program Expansion Act of 2026

The Senate considered the Officer John Barnes and Chief Michael Ansbro Public Safety Officers’ Benefit Program Expansion Act of 2026, which concerns the federal program that provides benefits to public safety officers. Senator Moreno asked the Senate to set aside a committee-reported substitute amendment, adopt a substitute amendment from Senator Gillibrand instead, and pass the bill as amended. The Senate’s handling of the bill came through these procedural requests; no substantive arguments for or against appear in the sampled statements.Written by AI from the debate. Updated .

Official Congressional Record

I ask unanimous consent that the committee-reported substitute amendment be withdrawn; that the Gillibrand substitute amendment at the desk be considered and agreed to; that the bill, as amended, be considered read a third time and passed; and that the motion to reconsider be considered made and laid upon the table.
