“I am honoring University of California, Irvine Police Chief Liz Griffin, who is retiring after 33 years in law enforcement. She made our campus safer, more open with its data, and helped bring more women into police work.”
“Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor the service of University of California, Irvine Chief of Police Liz Griffin. After more than 33 years of serving her community in law enforcement, including 7 years serving Irvine, Chief Griffin is retiring. Throughout her career, Chief Griffin has led with integrity, transparency, and a deep commitment to community-centered policing. At UC Irvine, Chief Griffin’s leadership helped the UCI Police Department implement initiatives that have set new standards for safety, accountability, and public trust. Her work has expanded public access to safety data, helped implement the community safety plan, strengthened partnerships across campus, and increased the representation of women in the policing workforce. Under her leadership, UCIPD also earned national accreditation from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, placing it among the top 10 percent of university policing agencies nationwide. Chief Griffin’s legacy will continue at UCI and across the University of California system. I thank her for her dedication, hard work, and service. I wish her the very best in retirement.”
