Mr. Speaker, I rise today in support of H.R. 9340, the Ratepayer Protection Act. This bill codifies the principles of the President's Ratepayer Protection Pledge, ensuring that Ohio families and small businesses aren't left on the hook to pay the costs associated with generation and energy infrastructure needed to power large data centers. As demand for electricity continues to rise across Ohio and the Nation, it is critical that Congress takes action to protect our constituents from increased electric bills. Ohio has already taken strong steps to make sure large electricity users contribute appropriately to the costs they impose on the grid. The Ratepayer Protection Act builds on that commonsense approach by directing States to adopt standards that ensure these facilities pay their fair share. Importantly, this bill does not infringe on local control over the siting and permitting of these projects. Mr. Speaker, I thank Congressman Evans for leading this bipartisan legislation and urge my colleagues to support the bill.
