Ikeda’s was featured on NBC’s ``Today’’ show and was voted the number one pie shop in America by USA Today.¹ The number one pie shop in America is a remarkable achievement for a business that has been serving the region for more than 50 years.² The founders were among the more than 120,000 Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II.³ Following their release, farming provided an opportunity to rebuild their lives, and through hard work, perseverance, and determination, the Ikeda family built a thriving business that has since become a beloved landmark along Interstate 80. Over time, the family expanded the business to include a pie operation that now produces up to 1,000 pies a day made with fruit grown on their own 40 acres of orchards.⁴ Today, Ikeda’s operates not only its flagship market, restaurant, and pie shop in Auburn, but also an additional location in Davis.⁵ The business continues to grow while maintaining its deep connection to the community.
